The factors that affect the "small breathing" loss of API standard 650 cylindrical welded storage tanks are: 1. Generally, the larger the storage tank is, the larger the total open area is, the larger the evaporation area is, and the greater the "small breathing" loss is; conversely, the smaller the storage tank is, the smaller the evaporation area is and the smaller the "small breathing" loss is. 2. It is related to the atmosphere. The lower the atmospheric pressure is, the greater the "small breathing" loss is; otherwise, the loss is reduced.
Hydrostatic TestThe API standard 650 cylindrical welded storage tanks product shall be vented to the atmosphere when it is filled with or emptied of water. During water filling, the elevations of at least four equidistant points at the bottom of the tank shell and on top of the ringwall or slab shall be checked. Differential settlement, or uniform settlement of substantial magnitude, requires an immediate stop to water filling. Any further filling with water will depend on an evaluation of the measured settlement.
