The foundations for API 650 stainless and carbon steel tank
Oil storage tank is an important equipment commonly used in petroleum and petrochemical industry. New API 650 stainless and carbon steel tank, metal storage tank must be tested before it can be put into use or put into storage. The common inspection methods of API 650 stainless and carbon steel tank include radiographic testing, ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle testing and dye penetrant testing. The parts and operation requirements of these testing methods are different, so they should be selected according to the required characteristics.
Impact Tests for High AlloysImpact tests are not required for the high-alloy (austenitic stainless steel) API 650 stainless and carbon steel tank base materials, nickel alloy based materials, aluminum base materials, and weld deposited for the nonferrous (aluminum) materials. Impact tests are not required for austenitic stainless steel welds deposited by all the welding processes for services of –200°F and above. Austenitic stainless steel welds deposited for service below –200°F by all welding processes shall be impact tested in accordance with Q.6.2 except that the required impact values shall be 75% of the values as given in Q.2.2.2, Item c.
The API 650 is widely used for tanks designed to withstand low internal pressures, for the API 650 stainless and carbon steel tank storage of typical products such as crude oil, petrol, chemicals and water. We have extensive experience when it comes to API 650 tanks, varying from tanks built in the factory up to +/- 500m3, to tanks built on-location up to +/-15,000 m3.
