The capacity of API Std 650 aboveground oil storage tanks

In this project, an area of steel storage oil tank wall is constructed of ASTM A285, Grade C, steel plate that is 5/8-in. thick and has spot-radiographed, double-welded butt joints. The wall is subject to tension in a meridional direction and to compression in a latitudinal direction. The values of R1 and R2 at the point under consideration are 75 in. and 300 in. respectively. A corrosion allowance of 1/16 in. is required. The computed (meridional) tensile stress, stc, in the net thickness after deduction of the corrosion allowance is 6000 lbf/in.2.

The API 650 is the American standard for welded flat-bottomed vertical API Std 650 aboveground oil storage tanks storage tanks. This standard dictates tank design, manufacture, welding, inspection and installation requirements.

The coating on the outer wall of API Std 650 aboveground oil storage tanks can not only reflect light but also prevent corrosion. Different coatings for oil tanks have different reflective properties, and the reflective performance of coatings is expressed by reflection index. For example, the reflection index of white coating is 90.0, that of sky blue coating is 85.0, and that of light gray coating is 57.0. It can be seen that the white coating has good reflective performance, and coating the outer surface of API Std 650 aboveground oil storage tanks with white coating can reduce the evaporation consumption of the oil tank.
