API standard 650 horizontal tank ultrasonic examination
Welding certification is regulated by Section 10 of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). For both API standard 650 horizontal tank storage tank API 650, non-destructive inspection is required, but third-party inspection is not required.
Material for the outer tank API standard 650 horizontal tank and for the roof that contains the vaporized liquefied gas but is primarily subjected to atmospheric temperatures may conform to one of the following:a)Table 4-1 for design metal temperatures down to –35°F (lowest 1-day mean ambient temperature of–35°F) without impact test unless they are required by Table 4-1 or by the Purchaser.b)Table R-3 for design metal temperatures down to –60°F without impact tests unless they are required by Table R-4 or by the Purchaser.
Welders participating in the construction of API standard 650 horizontal tank must pass the examination and perform welding within the validity period of the qualified items. Special operators such as on-site maintenance electricians, cranes, and shelf workers must hold job certificates. All oil pipelines need to use arc welding for bottoming and electric welding to ensure the welding quality. Oil tanks and process pipelines must be tested for non-destructive flaws in accordance with the flaw detection ratios and methods required by the design and acceptance specifications. The flaw detectors must be certified.
