Impact Tests for High Alloys
Impact tests are not required for the high-alloy (austenitic stainless steel) API standard 650 open-top tanks base materials, nickel alloy based materials, aluminum base materials, and weld deposited for the nonferrous (aluminum) materials. Impact tests are not required for austenitic stainless steel welds deposited by all the welding processes for services of –200°F and above. Austenitic stainless steel welds deposited for service below –200°F by all welding processes shall be impact tested in accordance with Q.6.2 except that the required impact values shall be 75% of the values as given in Q.2.2.2, Item c.

Supply covers for API standard 650 open-top tanks connections specified with the service covers remaining in place following tests. For API 650 tank connections not specified to be supplied with service covers, the test covers may be removed after testing.

The Egypt customer ordered 130 tons API standard 650 open-top tanks stainless steel plate in stock, and this batch has left port today for its destination today(October 25th, 2019). 316l stainless steel is molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steel. This material has better corrosion resistant property than 304/314L for it's higher Ni and Mo content. (it is considered to be marine grade stainless steel, not suitable for warm sea water treatment). 316L austenitic stainless steel supplied by our company has good formability and weldablity, additionally it is proved to have excellent properties of tensile, creep and stress-rupture strengths in elevated temperature environment.

Inspection of API standard 650 open-top tanks bottom: magnetic flux leakage scanning technology is used to detect the corrosion condition of API standard 650 open-top tanks bottom plate (such as corrosion depth and area, crack length, etc.). When there is a defect in the bottom plate of the API standard 650 open-top tanks, the magnetic field distribution will change and the sensor can detect it. The bottom of the oil tank should be free of foreign matters and dry during testing. Weld inspection of API standard 650 open-top tanks bottom plate: when vacuum leak test method is used to detect the tightness of oil tank bottom plate, soap water shall be applied to the weld and vacuum box shall be covered for observation.
