Tangential shear in API standard 650 self-anchored flat-bottom tanks
Due to irregular operation of API standard 650 self-anchored flat-bottom tanks welding, there are many weld deformations during the construction process. Before specific operations, most construction units have formulated relatively complete construction plans and set up special welding process instructions, but the operators have not fully performed welding in accordance with various process guidance requirements and construction specifications, resulting in some quality problems of oil storage tanks. How can we reduce or even avoid this kind of situation?
The thickness of the API standard 650 self-anchored flat-bottom tanks annular bottom plates shall be in accordance with Table Q-4 (for steel or aluminum, as applicable). The thicknesses shown are minimums. The ring of annual plates shall have a circular outside circumference, but it may have a regular polygonal shape inside the tank shell with the number of sides equal to the number of annular plates. These pieces shall be butt-welded in accordance with Q.7.1.1, Item b. The plates of the first shell course shall be attached to the annular bottom plates by a weld as required by API 620 oil tank 5.9.5 except when a full-penetration weld is used or required (see Q.7.1.1). Butt-welds in annular plates shall be not closer than 12 in. from any vertical weld.
According to API Standard 650, the stairs used for API 650 petroleum storage tanks or thermal insulation tanks should be double longitudinal beams supported by a minimum of ribs. If the gap between the API standard 650 self-anchored flat-bottom tanks tank shell and the stringer of the API 650 petroleum storage tank exceeds 200mm, handrails should be provided on both sides of the stairs. Unless otherwise specified, according to API standard 650 self-anchored flat-bottom tanks ASTM A123, the following accessories shall be hot-dip galvanized. The damaged zinc coating should be repaired with zinc alloy.
