Mechanical loading on API Std 650 special tank

This specification, in conjunction with API 650 Standard, prescribes minimum standards for the API Std 650 special tank design, supply fabrication, erection, and testing of field erected welded steel storage tanks complete with accessories as specified herein and as shown on attached datasheets and/or drawings.

Allowable Design Stresses
The maximum allowable design stresses for the API Std 650 special tank materials outlined in Q.2.1 shall be in accordance with Table Q-3.The values for the allowable design tensile stress given in Table Q-3 for materials other than bolting steel are the lesser of (a) 331/3% of the specified minimum ultimate tensile strength for the material or (b) 662/3% of the specified minimum yield strength, but they are 75% of the specified minimum yield strength for the stainless steel, nickel alloy, and aluminum materials. Allowable test stresses are based on the limitation of API 620 oil tank storage standard Q.8.1.3.

Personnel organization before the construction of the API Std 650 special tank:
The company shall select technical personnel, quality inspectors and material personnel with organizational ability and construction management experience to participate in the API Std 650 special tank project construction. The construction personnel shall arrive at the construction site before the designated commencement date, investigate the construction site, build construction facilities, plan the construction steps, and analyze the potential safety hazards during operation.
