Design requirements of API Std 650 ground supported liquid storage tanks

API 650 storage tank stipulates that if the thickness of the lower wall panel obtained by calculating the anti-overturning moment is greater than the thickness of the API Std 650 ground supported liquid storage tanks hydrostatic pressure test (both do not include the corrosion allowance).

Static storage loss is also known as "small breathing" consumption. The rise and fall of the temperature in the API Std 650 ground supported liquid storage tanks leads to the increase and decrease of the pressure in the tank, which makes the mixed oil gas discharged from the tank, and the external air is sucked into the tank, resulting in the oil consumption. Fluid level loss is also called "big breathing" loss. It is the oil consumption caused by the change of gas space volume in the API Std 650 ground supported liquid storage tanks during the oil receiving and sending operation, which causes the mixed oil gas to be discharged out of the tank, and the external air is sucked into the tank, resulting in the oil consumption due to the change of liquid level height.

API 620 Steel Oil Tank Bottom and Shell Support
The tank API Std 650 ground supported liquid storage tanks under-bottom insulation shall be designed to resist the combined pressures from the product load, the overturning seismic load and the vertical seismic load. These seismic pressures may be combined by SRSS.
The bearing ring under the shell shall be designed to resist the calculated OLE peak compressive force in the tank shell due to overturning (see API 650 oil tank, Section E.6.2.2), including dead and live loads. A 33 % increase in allowable bearing stress is permitted.
