API Std 650 mixed material tanks method for estimating tank uplift

Fabricated to API standard 650 Welded Tanks for Oil Storage Shop Assembled API Std 650 mixed material tanks storage tanks, these tanks are commonly used at oil and natural gas terminals, API Std 650 mixed material tanks processing plants, and midstream facilities located along pipelines at the pumping, compression, or metering stations. API 650 storage tanks are designed and fabricated considering operating pressures up to 2.5 PSIG, corrosion allowance, wind loading, and seismicity.

Large-scale vertical API Std 650 mixed material tanks mostly use internal tank bottom heating coils to heat the medium stored in the storage tanks. The heating coils are mostly smooth tube structures arranged in an annular circle along the bottom of the API Std 650 mixed material tanks. Commonly used heating methods include hot oil circulation heating method and hot water steam circulation heating method. The hot oil circulation heating method is to continuously extract part of the liquid medium from the storage tank, and then return it to the container to mix with the medium in the tank after heating, and the heat is quickly transferred through mechanical stirring.

The tank API Std 650 mixed material tanks under-bottom insulation shall be designed to resist the combined pressures from the product load, the overturning seismic load and the vertical seismic load. These seismic pressures may be combined by SRSS.
The bearing ring under the shell shall be designed to resist the calculated OLE peak compressive force in the tank shell due to overturning (see API 650 oil tank, Section E.6.2.2), including dead and live loads. A 33 % increase in allowable bearing stress is permitted.
