API standard 650 special tank overfill protection level
This specification, in conjunction with API 650 Standard, prescribes minimum standards for the API standard 650 special tank design, supply, fabrication, erection, and testing of field erected welded steel storage tanks complete with accessories as specified herein and as shown on attached Datasheets and/or Drawings.
Crack treatment of API standard 650 special tank weld area: find out the crack tip with ray or ultrasonic flaw detection, drill cut-off holes at both ends of the crack with the cut-off method, the hole depth is slightly greater than the crack depth, or groove (crack stop groove) is made by angle grinder at both ends of the crack, shovel and grind the whole crack, and grind it into a suitable groove; use radiographic inspection and dye detection to verify that the crack has been completely excavated, and finally repair welding.
When as-rolled plate material complies with impact test requirements as specified here, the material need not be normalized. If, as with ASTM A516, the specification prohibits impact test without normalizing but otherwise permits as-rolled plates, the API 620 welded storage tanks material may be ordered in accordance with the above provision and identified as “MOD” for this API modification.
