Design of API 650 storage tanks

Material for the outer tank API 650 storage tanks and for the roof that contains the vaporized liquefied gas but is primarily subjected to atmospheric temperatures may conform to one of the following:
a)Table 4-1 for design metal temperatures down to –35°F (lowest 1-day mean ambient temperature of–35°F) without impact test unless they are required by Table 4-1 or by the Purchaser.
b)Table R-3 for design metal temperatures down to –60°F without impact tests unless they are required by Table R-4 or by the Purchaser.

According to API standard 650, the stairs used for API 650 petroleum storage tanks or thermal insulation tanks should be double longitudinal beams supported by a minimum of ribs. If the gap between the API 650 storage tanks tank shell and the stringer of the API 650 petroleum storage tank exceeds 200mm, handrails should be provided on both sides of the stairs. Unless otherwise specified, according to API 650 storage tanks ASTM A123, the following accessories shall be hot-dip galvanized. The damaged zinc coating should be repaired with zinc alloy.

No matter what type of storage tank needs to be built, the natural conditions of the geographical area where the tank is located should be fully considered in the design. Because natural conditions will affect the service life, storage safety and construction cost of storage tanks such as API 650 storage tanks. Generally, the natural conditions that need to be considered before API 650 storage tanks design and construction are: regional temperature, wind load, snow load, ground endurance, external environment corrosion, etc.
