This standard applies only to API 650 tank API 650 ground-supported liquid storage tanks whose entire bottom is uniformly supported and to API 650 tank in non-refrigerated service that have a maximum design temperature of 93°C (200 °F) or less.

Requirements for prefabrication of bottom plate of large vertical API 650 ground-supported liquid storage tanks:
1. The diameter of tank bottom should be enlarged by 0.1% ~ 0.15% according to the design diameter.
2. The minimum dimension of edge plate along the radius direction of tank bottom shall not be less than 700mm.
3. The distance between any adjacent welds of the base plate shall not be less than 300 mm.

Large Low-Pressure Tanks Corrosion Allowance
In cases in which the rate of corrosion is closely predictable, additional metal thickness over and above that required for the initial operating conditions shall be provided and shall be at least equal to the expected corrosion loss during the desired life of the tank.
When corrosion effects are indeterminate before the tank is designed (although they are known to be inherent to some degree in the service for which the tank is to be used), and when corrosion is incidental, localized, or variable in rate and extent, the best judgement of the API 650 ground-supported liquid storage tanks designer must be exercised in establishing reasonable maximum excess tank wall thicknesses. For all tanks that come under this classification, a minimum corrosion allowance of 1/16 in. shall be provided.
