During the use of API standard 650 carbon and low-alloy steel tanks, the tank material is prone to crack and leakage under the action of pressure, corrosion, wear and other conditions. Especially in the oil producing area, the temperature difference in four seasons is large and the natural environment is bad, which will accelerate the consumption of oil storage tank and cause many potential safety hazards. Therefore, the API standard 650 carbon and low-alloy steel tanks must undergo strict inspections before being put into use after the production and installation are completed, so as to avoid cracks and leakage in short-term use and affect production safety.

The refrigerated tank primary components shall also include those parts of a single-wall or an inner tank that are not in contact with the refrigerated liquid but are subject to the refrigerated temperature. Such API standard 650 carbon and low-alloy steel tanks components include roof plates, roof manways and nozzles with their reinforcements, roof-supporting structural members, and shell stiffeners when the combined tensile and primary bending stresses in these components under design conditions are greater than 6000 lbf/in.2.
