API 650 is the standard for welded tanks for oil storage. It specifies the design, manufacturing, welding, inspection and installation requirements of oil tanks. API 650 API Std 650 self-anchored tank is widely used in storage tanks with internal pressure less than or equal to 2.5 PSI, used to store products such as crude oil, gasoline, chemicals, and produced water. Due to irregular operation of API Std 650 self-anchored tank welding, there are many weld deformations during the construction process. Before specific operations, most construction units have formulated relatively complete construction plans and set up special welding process instructions, but the operators have not fully performed welding in accordance with various process guidance requirements and construction specifications, resulting in some quality problems of oil storage tanks. Impact Tests for High Alloys
Impact tests are not required for the high-alloy (austenitic stainless steel) API Std 650 self-anchored tank base materials, nickel alloy based materials, aluminum base materials, and weld deposited for the nonferrous (aluminum) materials. Impact tests are not required for austenitic stainless steel welds deposited by all the welding processes for services of –200°F and above. Austenitic stainless steel welds deposited for service below –200°F by all welding processes shall be impact tested in accordance with Q.6.2 except that the required impact values shall be 75% of the values as given in Q.2.2.2, Item c.
